NRSP | Natural Resource Systems Programme

Research partnerships

NRSP was committed to strengthening the capacity of 'Southern' organisations to conduct effective inter-disciplinary and pro-poor research on the integrated management of NRs.  In its research calls, it encouraged bids from partnerships of different types of organisations - government, non-government and private - having expertise in NR management, with each partner contributing its own specific expertise towards attaining the project purpose.

In the early years of the programme, a UK-based organisation would typically partner one or more organisations in the project country: this encouraged local ownership and relevance of the research and facilitated accessible and lasting local ‘information reservoirs’.  From 2000, NRSP increased its emphasis on project leadership by 'Southern' partners.  In its final two programme years, 74% of projects in the active portfolio were led by 'Southern' organisations.

Embedding research and uptake promotion within national and regional organisations and networks was fundamental to NRSP's strategy to help ensure the sustainability of pro-poor research product delivery after project and programme closure.

In total, through its partnership approach, NRSP worked with over 250 different organisations.
